Generate Instagram Access Token ( Personal Account )

Step 1: Create an App on Meta for Developers

  1. Visit Meta for Developers and log in or sign up for an account.
  2. Click the “Create App” button in the top right corner.
  3. Fill in your App Name and Contact Email, then click Next.
  4. Under App Use Case, choose “Other”, then click Next.
  5. For App Type, select “Business”, and click Next.
  6. Review your entries, then click “Create App” to finish.

Step 2: Configure the Instagram Product

  1. Inside your new app dashboard, go to the Add a Product section in the left sidebar.
  2. Find Instagram and click Set Up.
  3. Click Create New App under the Instagram product section.

Step 3: Add an Instagram Tester

To generate a valid access token, you need to authorize a real Instagram account:

  1. Go to App Roles > Roles in the app dashboard.
  2. Scroll to the Instagram Testers section.
  3. Click “Add Instagram Testers”.
  4. Enter the Instagram username of your tester account and click Submit.
  5. The tester must:
    • Log into their Instagram account.
    • Go to Settings > Apps and Websites > Tester Invites.
    • Accept the app invitation.

Step 4: Generate the Instagram Access Token

After the tester accepts the invitation, follow these steps to get the token:

  1. Go to the Instagram product section > API Setup with Instagram login in your app dashboard.
  2. Scroll down to the Generate Access tokens.
  3. Click Generate Token.
  4. A login prompt will appear — log in using the Instagram tester account.
  5. Authorize the app by clicking Allow.
  6. In the next window:
    • Check the “I Understand” box.
    • Copy the generated Access Token.

Done!

You now have an Instagram Access Token ready to use with your app or website. This token lets you access basic Instagram data, such as user media, profile info, and more.
